Got expired or used marine flares? Flares expire 42 months from the date of manufacture. Dispose of them properly with the help of the Maine State Fire Marshal.

Why Dispose of expired marine flares properly? Marine flares burn at high temperatures, posing a serious fire hazard. Flares also contain toxic chemicals, such as perchlorate, which can contaminate water and harm the health of humans and wildlife. Due to these hazardous qualities, it is illegal to throw flares in the trash. For the same reasons, it is also not recommended to store expired flares at home.
