Be a Champion for Casco Bay

Everyone wants a healthy Casco Bay, but how do we get there? Through training workshops and Bay Papers—one page primers on issues facing the Bay—we are inspiring our volunteers to think of themselves as Champions, active ambassadors sharing information, data, and actions with their family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. The goal is for those who live, work, and play on Casco Bay to take ownership of our mission—to improve and protect the environmental health of Casco Bay.

Anyone can be a champion for Casco Bay. We empower you to be an advocate for the Bay with your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors. Our Bay Papers have suggestions for engaging listeners with “Did you know?” or other conversation starters, a brief overview of the threat,  information on what Friends of Casco Bay is doing to confront the issue, and what individuals and our communities can do to address the problem.

We also periodically hold Champions for the Bay workshops. Workshop participants practice discussing an issue from both sides, alternately being supportive or curmudgeonly, amid much laughter. The goal of the workshops are to help participants understand different perspectives on an issue and learn to craft a response that respects, even if they disagree with, differing opinions.
